The short version
To view or save an Instagram profile picture: enter the public account's username above and save the DP at full size. It runs in the browser on phone or desktop with no account, app or Instagram login. Private accounts are not supported, and the image is the one Instagram serves publicly.

Profile URL for the DP — post URL for feed photos
This Instagram profile picture downloader resolves the account avatar from a public profile URL or
@username. It is not the image tool: a /p/ or /reel/ link is a feed post, not a display picture.
DP (display picture) is the circular profile photo — also called a PFP or insta DP. Instagram only shows
it tiny in the app; Instappa requests the full-size source image when that public profile exposes one. Some
public accounts still return only a smaller preview — that is an Instagram limitation, not a missing
feature. Private profiles cannot be opened without a login, which this page does not use.
When DP mode fits
You have a profile link or username and want the avatar, not a grid post
You need to view a public profile picture larger than the in-app circle
You are recovering your own public DP after losing the original file
You accept that full-size HD is not available for every public account
You will use the image downloader when the URL is a feed photo instead
Saving a public DP on iPhone and Android
Paste a profile URL or username (not a post link), download the JPG avatar, then move it to Photos or Gallery.
iPhone
Save Instagram profile pictures on iPhone (Camera Roll)
Files → Photos
1Paste a public @username or profile URL into Instappa (not a /p/ post).
2Tap Get Profile Picture and save the JPG when prompted (usually to Files).
3In Files, press and hold, then Save Image to Photos.
Tip If you pasted a feed post URL by mistake, switch to the image downloader instead.
Android
Save Instagram profile pictures on Android (Gallery)
Downloads → Gallery
1In Chrome, paste the public username or profile link into Instappa.
2Tap Get Profile Picture — the JPG saves to Downloads.
3Open Gallery or Files → Downloads to view the avatar.
Tip A smaller-than-expected file often means Instagram only exposed a preview for that public profile.
DP mode: avatar from the profile
Built for public usernames and profile links. Feed photos, Reels, Stories, and audio use the other tools — a post URL is the wrong input here.
Input
Profile URL, not post URL
Paste instagram.com/username or the @handle. Links with /p/, /reel/, or /stories/ point at posts or Stories — use those dedicated tools instead.
Result
DP vs feed photo
You get the account’s display picture (avatar), not a grid post. Saving a photo from the feed requires the image or carousel page.
Limits
Public profiles; HD when exposed
Private accounts fail. Even on public profiles, Instagram sometimes only returns a small preview — we cannot invent a larger file.
Privacy
No Instagram login
Only the public username or profile URL you enter is used. We never ask for a password.
Private profiles are not supported — there is no login bypass.
Feed post URLs (/p/, /reel/) and Stories links are the wrong input; use Image, Video, Reels, or Stories instead.
Some public accounts only expose a small avatar preview — Instappa cannot invent a larger file when Instagram withholds it.
If a link fails, confirm the account is public while logged out, then paste the profile URL (not a grid post).
DP as JPG — avatar only, not a feed download
Successful downloads are standard JPG avatars. You are not saving a carousel slide or Reel still — only the profile’s display picture.
When Instagram exposes a full-size display picture for that public profile, Instappa surfaces it. Otherwise you may get a smaller public preview. No watermark is added either way.
Instappa is independent and not affiliated with Instagram or Meta. Download only public content you have
permission to use. See our Terms and
public vs private guide.

01What URL do I paste for a profile picture?
Use a public profile URL (instagram.com/username) or the @username itself — not a /p/ or /reel/ post link. Post URLs belong on the image or video tools; this page resolves the account’s display picture only.
02How is a DP different from a feed photo?
A DP (display picture / profile photo) is the circular avatar on the profile. A feed photo is a post in the grid. This tool downloads the avatar, not grid posts — use the image downloader for those.
03Is this an insta DP downloader?
Yes. DP means display picture — the same as a profile photo or PFP. Enter a public username or profile URL to view and save that avatar when Instagram exposes it.
04How can I see an Instagram profile picture in full size?
Instagram only shows the avatar as a small circle. Paste the public profile URL or username here and Instappa loads the full-size image Instagram exposes for that public account — when a larger URL is available.
05Will someone know if I download their Instagram profile picture?
Instagram does not notify account owners when a public profile picture is viewed or saved through an external tool, and Instappa never asks for your Instagram account.
06Does every public profile return full-size HD?
No. When Instagram exposes a larger display-picture URL, Instappa prefers it. Some public accounts only return a smaller preview — full-size HD is unavailable for those profiles even though the account is public.
07Can I download private account display pictures?
No. Only publicly available display pictures are supported. Private profiles cannot be resolved without a login, which Instappa does not use.
For scope and personal-use limits, see our
public vs private
and
copyright
guides.
08Is this Instagram profile picture downloader free?
Yes. Viewing and downloading a public Instagram profile picture with Instappa is free — no account, payment, or app install.
09Do I need an Instagram account?
No. As long as the profile is public, enter the username or profile URL and view or download the DP in your browser.
Ready to view a public profile picture?
Paste a public profile URL or @username above — not a feed post link — to download the DP.
