Quick checks before you retry
Work through these in order. Most failures clear after one or two of them.
- Confirm the post is public. Open the same link in a private/incognito window while logged out of Instagram. If Instagram asks you to log in or says the content is unavailable, Instappa cannot download it. See public vs private Instagram.
- Use the matching tool. Feed videos belong on the video downloader; Reels on the reels downloader; photos on the image downloader; multi-slide posts on the carousel downloader; sound on the audio downloader; live Stories on the stories downloader; profile photos on the DP downloader.

Paste the full share URL. Prefer links that start with
https://www.instagram.com/orhttps://instagram.com/. Truncated links, profile-only URLs, or app deep links without a post path often fail. - Wait and retry once. Instagram sometimes throttles resolve requests. Wait 30–60 seconds and try again with the same public link.
Private, restricted, or deleted content
Instappa only resolves media that Instagram exposes publicly without a login. Private accounts, Close Friends Stories, age-gated or region-restricted posts, and deleted media will not resolve — by design. We do not bypass logins, paywalls, or DRM.
If a post used to work and suddenly fails, check whether the creator made the account private, deleted the post, archived it, or changed who can view it. A link that worked yesterday is not a guarantee for today when visibility changed on Instagram’s side.
Expired Stories
Stories disappear after about 24 hours (unless saved as a Highlight). Instappa can only save a Story while it is still live and public. Once Instagram removes it from the Story ring, the share link will not resolve here either. Waiting and retrying will not revive an expired Story.

Wrong format for the tool
Pasting a photo URL into the video tool — or a Reel into the image tool — is a common miss. Each Instappa page is tuned for one media type so quality selection stays predictable. If the link looks valid and public but still fails, switch tools using the mode pills or the tool directory on the homepage.

- Extra spaces, missing
https://, or a truncated path after copy/paste - Profile homepage URLs (
instagram.com/username) when you meant a specific post - Shortened or third-party redirect links that never expand to a real Instagram media URL
- Story links copied after the Story already expired
Fix the URL first, confirm it opens logged out, then paste again into the matching Instappa tool.

Even public links can fail when Instagram rate-limits anonymous traffic or when upstream resolve providers are degraded. Signs that throttling is more likely than privacy: the same link opened fine in a logged-out browser moments ago, other public links also fail briefly, or a retry after a minute succeeds.
In that case, wait and try once more. Do not submit Instagram passwords or switch to “private unlock” tools — Instappa will never ask for login credentials.
What Instappa will not do
- Download private or login-gated Instagram content
- Circumvent Instagram authentication or platform protections
- Host your downloads as long-term cloud storage
- Guarantee every public link will resolve during Instagram outages or rate limits
